A story about a Japanese goddess from 'Dance Stories', an anthology by Jane Yolen and Heidi Stemple. I was interested in how to depict movement in a decorative way.
Illustrations for 'Dance Stories', a high quality anthology of stories about dancing, were commissioned by Barefoot Books and published in 2009. This story is from Japan.

For Brighton Life Drawing Sessions (now Draw), I designed and painted a bespoke "Cabinet of Wonder" which, as one of three, was pulled around the city as part of an all night arts festival. Stopping at designated points, it opened theatrically to reveal a life model inside which the resulting crowd were encouraged to draw. I was also commissioned to create a map of the city showing the designated stopping points. The map was additionally used by BANG for their publication. The general theme of the night was "Enlightenment" and both pieces were influenced by the 18th century age of Enlightenment.
This project was supported and funded by The Big Draw and Brighton and Hove county council. Enlightenment: The Cabinets of Wonder won a Drawing Inspiration award from the Big Draw.Calligraphy, Illustration, Painting, prop-making, theatre, arts events2011 -
